The Great Whitsunday Rugby League Reunion

Members and family representatives of the Whitsunday’s first (and only) victorious Foley Shield side of 1973 came together for a weekend of celebrations as part of the Great Whitsunday Rugby League Reunion held from 4-6 August 2023.

Close to 200 past teammates and rivals attended the Reunion celebrating the rich history, success, and good times of the 1969-1994 Whitsunday rugby league era, including the 50th anniversary of the legendary Whitsundays 1973 Foley Shield win.

Friday 4 August 2023

Social Golf Day

Where: Bowen Golf Club, at beautiful Queens Beach

Time: 11am arrival for a 12noon ‘Shotgun Start’ (Sausage Sizzle lunch)

Cost: $35 includes ride share buggy (pay direct to Bowen Golf Club on arrival)

Transport: Depending on numbers, a return bus may run between Collinsville-Bowen and Airlie Beach-Proserpine-Bowen.

Where: Sorrento Restaurant and Bar, overlooking Abel Point Marina (best views in the Whitsundays!)

Time: 5pm

The Great Reunion Lunch

Where: Jubilee Tavern, Shute Harbour Road, Airlie Beach

Time: 12noon – 4pm

Cost: $60 per person (or $600 for a table of 10) includes 2-Course Roast Carvery, history book and stubby cooler.

Enjoy a panel of speakers including Australian International and Captain of Whitsundays winning Foley Shield team, Les Hanigan. There will be some fantastic auction items on the day.
